What is CBD Salve?

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

CBD products are certainly taking the market by storm. Why? Because CBD works! CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is widely regarded to have a broad range of medicinal values. In general, CBD helps to support the body's natural endocannabinoid system (ECS), a system of receptors that help regulate the body to keep it in balance (a process called homeostasis.) A variety of CBD products are offered these days – everything from gummies to infused beverages. Many people seek CBD products to target muscles and joints for pain relief. A CBD salve is best for this type of targeted relief.

Why is a CBD Salve Best for Pain?

Of course, we've all used salves for skin conditions and certainly to reduce muscle

pain. So why is a CBD salve best for pain?

In various consumer polls, over 60 percent of adults use CBD to reduce pain. In addition, CBD is approved in Canada for cancer pain reduction, and ongoing global research suggests that CBD has tremendous benefits for pain relief, including muscle and joint pain. Many adults seek relief from chronic pain, which lasts longer than several months. People with chronic pain often are prescribed opioid drugs or antidepressants for pain.

They often find themselves in a vicious cycle of chronic pain that disturbs sleep; those sleep disturbances can make a person less responsive to pain-relieving medication. These people are looking for a more natural solution without the dangerous side effects of opioid drugs.

Cannabinoids can break that vicious cycle. Researchers have also discovered that CBD paired with THC, is a very effective pain reliever. Why? CBD and THC work together according to the entourage effect. This means that CBD and THC work synergistically, complementing each other to produce effects that would not be present if CBD and THC were used alone.

Some people do not tolerate pure THC, and it has psychoactive effects many consumers try to avoid. However, it turns out that CBD modulates the effects of THC. Entourage effects between various cannabinoids have been studied since the 1990s. They looked at how the cannabinoid receptors reacted and discovered that one cannabinoid would often enhance the physiological effect of another cannabinoid. In the case of THC and CBD, it turns out that THC activates a receptor called CB1; CBD also activates the CB1 receptor differently, so it changes THC's ability to activate the same receptor.

Researchers think this explains how CBD can reduce some of the side effects of THC. Researchers also know that the ratio of THC: to CBD in a product also influences the level of psychoactivity of the THC. So when CBD is present at high levels, the psychoactive effects of THC are reduced.

The entourage effect occurs not only between CBD and THC but also between other

cannabinoids and terpenes. A full-spectrum product has THC, CBD, and all the flavonoids and terpenes from the hemp plant. The entourage effect can occur between any of these

compounds. Full-spectrum products have been shown to produce better pain

tolerability than products with pure THC. Terpenes are also thought to modulate THC; there is promising early research but more needs to be done.

There is extensive ongoing research regarding CBD and pain, as well as other cannabinoids and pain. For example, CBD has been studied in chronic pain conditions like spinal cord injuries and multiple sclerosis and has also been studied for different types of pain: nociceptive pain in body tissues, nerve pain, and mixed pain conditions.

How Does CBD work?

Our bodies make their own cannabinoids, called endocannabinoids, but the constant stress of daily life can interfere with this natural process. Stress brings on chemicals like cortisol and adrenaline, which put the body's endocannabinoid system into overdrive. Our bodies simply cannot keep up with the production of natural cannabinoids, and that is where CBD comes into the picture. The body needs additional support, and CBD provides that by slowing down the destruction of our endocannabinoids.

CBD provides an incredible amount of support to the body's endocannabinoid system, in particular, inflammation and pain. In addition, scientists know that when CBD binds to the body's natural receptors, it promotes relaxation.

Our CBD Salve Ingredients

Our CBD-infused salve has simple but effective ingredients. First, we use a full-spectrum

industrial hemp extract. It is a CBD salve with THC; it contains 4500mg CBD for a highly

potent formulation. When we create the salve, the full power of the hemp phytonutrients is extracted and added to our special mixture.

We also use sweet almond oil and organic eucalyptus oil as carrier and fragrance oils, and our beeswax serves as a good base for the salve. This unique blend creates a shelf-stable, thick formulation. The beeswax and oils help to open the receptors and cells to the healing effects of the full spectrum of cannabinoids. We love our salve. It will nurture your pain and delight your senses. We keep it simple, but this mix of ingredients makes a healing salve quite powerful. It is easy to rub onto any area that is giving you aches and pains. Best of all, our products are made here in Colorado and are lab-tested.

CBD Salve Provides Targeted Relief For Pain

CBD salves are quite often used to provide targeted relief for joint pain that results from arthritis. Whether osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, significant pain occurs with these conditions. In particular, rheumatoid arthritis is accompanied by inflammation in the joint, and CBD is known to reduce inflammation. Some customers use it after exercise or a tough day at work. It's great for easing muscle tension or joint pain.

Why Full Spectrum?

CBD is generally sold in three formulations: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate. Our salve is a full-spectrum CBD product, meaning it contains not only CBD but all of the other plant extracts found in hemp (other cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, and plant essential oils.) Full-spectrum products can contain up to 0.3% THC, but the amount is so low that it will not have significant psychoactive effects. Hemp is grown to contain only this amount of THC or less, so you will get that included in a full spectrum product.

Broad-spectrum CBD is similar to full-spectrum CBD but doesn't contain THC. An

isolate is a pure CBD extract, and isolate products don't contain any of the other plants

compounds found in broad- and full-spectrum products.

What's the Difference Between Broad Spectrum and Full Spectrum CBD Salves?

The difference between broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD salves comes down to the inclusion or exclusion of THC and other plant compounds found in hemp extract.

Broad-spectrum salves will not contain THC, but they will still contain all other

compounds, such as terpenes, flavonoids, and other cannabinoids. Full-spectrum salves

contain THC, but only in amounts too low to cause any psychoactive effects.

Both full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD products have their own sets of benefits. Therefore, users must experiment with different formulations to determine which works best for them. In general, however, the additional compounds in full-spectrum products tend to create a more potent effect than broad-spectrum or isolate products. Ultimately, the decision on which type of salve should be based on personal preference and health goals.

Full-spectrum CBD salves are a great choice for those interested in reaping the benefits of the entourage effect. However, those concerned about possible drug testing should try a broad-spectrum or isolate product to avoid any trace amounts of THC in their systems. Full-spectrum products are also more expensive than broad-spectrum and isolate products because of the additional plant compounds included in the formulation. Whichever type of salve you choose, ensure it is from a reputable source and third-party lab tested for purity and potency. That way, you can be sure that what you're putting on your skin will be safe, effective, and free from contaminants.

How can I use CBD Salve?

Many people turn to CBD salves for relief from arthritis and the joint pain associated with the condition. As mentioned earlier, CBD relieves inflammation, thus reducing joint swelling and other symptoms. In addition, some of our customers use our CBD salve for TMJ (temporomandibular disorder) or pain associated with jaw movements and soreness of those surrounding muscles. Of course, we are not offering medical advice, but we hear it works wonders!

Neuropathy or nerve pain affects millions of individuals, and a CBD salve can significantly

reduce nerve pain. In particular, we have customers who use it for peripheral neuropathy, a condition caused by nerve damage in the hands and feet. This condition is associated with numbness, a "pins and needles" feeling, a burning sensation, or chronic pain.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) also affects many individuals, particularly those who work long hours at a computer. This condition involves constricted nerves due to repetitive motion injury, and people often experience tingling and pain in their hands. For example, people often notice thumb pain first, and soon the muscles become sore in the entire hand.

CBD Salve for Pain

CBD salves are an excellent choice for relieving pain due to the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD. It can help reduce inflammation and relieve joint pain associated with arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome. Additionally, it can help reduce nerve pain related to peripheral neuropathy or TMJ disorder.

A CBD salve is also great for reducing inflammation and improving skin health. It contains essential fatty acids which can help nourish the skin, reduce scars and blemishes, and even improve complexion.

Overall, using a CBD salve is an easy way to experience the benefits of CBD without any psychoactive effects or risk of drug testing.

Finding the Perfect Salve

There are several things to look for when finding a CBD salve. First, you want the ingredients to be organic, like ours, and made with all-natural hemp. Second, you want to know the source of the hemp used in the product; ours is grown in the beautiful state of Colorado.

Importantly, you want to select products from a company that provides third-party lab test results as we do. Lab testing is important to ensure that products have the degree of CBD in them according to the claims on the label. It is also important for the lab to certify that products contain less than 0.3% THC. Labs also test for the presence of pesticides, heavy metals, and molds, which is also very important to consumer safety. All lab tests are provided on the certificate of analysis (COA), so you will know exactly what is (and is not) in your salve. The renowned Botanacor Lab tests our products, and our lab results are available on our salve product page for all to see.

Don't suffer from pain any longer. Instead, soothe your aches with our CBD salve. It goes on easily and starts working in seconds. You'll love it!
